Materials: Raw: Yttrium- Grade 5 - #00022
Yttrium is a rare grade 4 element in Elite Dangerous.
Material traders allow trade with almost every other raw 'element' material. If you wish to trade something in for Yttrium, you can do so with other grade 4(5) element material with a ratio of 6:1.
Yttrium is in Category 1, together with Niobium, Vanadium and Carbon.
It is more favorable to use Niobium as a source for a Yttrium trade, this class 3 element material has a 6:1 ratio but it's way easier to harvest than grade 4 or 5 material.
Just keep in mind that Niobium is used for a broad variety of engineer modifications and for synthesis. It might be wise to check how much Niobium you might need in the future before wasting it for a trade.
Engineers need Yttrium for "specialised" shield cell banks of their maximum 4th grade and for double braced effects.
Synthesis uses Yttrium as "JUMPONIUM" - it is used to improve jump range, a very important feature for explorers planning to visit the less dense parts of our galaxy.
Probabilities of finding Yttrium is about average, regarding its Grade 4 status. AS it is not needed in vast amounts, it's one of the less time consuming materials.

Known geological hotspots like volcanoes at gas vents. Use LTT 13904 - Body B 1 A - gas vents. With 'needle crystal' structures you have a high chance of Yttrium.
