MATERIALS: Raw: Ruthenium - Grade 4 - #00018
Ruthenium is a rare and important element material of grade 4.
Material traders allow trade with almost every other raw 'element' material. If you wish to trade something in for Ruthenium, you can do so with other grade 4(5) element material with a ratio of 6:1.
Category 3 is Ruthenium's group, together with Cadmium, Mangese and Sulphur.
It is more advisable to use cadmium as a source for a ruthenium trade, this class 3 element material has a 6:1 ratio but it's way easier to harvest than grade 4 or 5 material. Just keep in mind if you're planning to engineer your ship with blueprints in need of vast amounts of Cadmium, as Cadmium is needed for a lot of grade 5 enhancements.
Engineers need Ruthenium for experimental effects like 'Deep Plating' on Bulkheads and Hull Reinforcement Packages and for the 'Oversized' effect on a broad variety of weapons.
Modifications which use Ruthenium are 'Blast Resistant' upgrades on Bulkheads and HRP an kinetic or thermal resistance improvements on Shield Generators.
Synthesis uses Ruthenium as 'ammunition' refill for Automatic Field Maintenance modules, which makes it an important material for Explorers.
Regular places to find higher quantities of Ruthenium are best to be searched for by using eddb.io, three high content systems for example:
- Near SOL: George Pantazis A 7 - 24.59 ly - 54 ls - 1.4% probability - 0.97 g
Near Earth gravity. High probability. (Over 1.4% is usually untrue) - Near DROMI: Nemehi A 3 - 22.04 ly - 117 ls - 1.4% probability - 0.94 g
Near Earth gravity. High probability. (Over 1.4% is usually untrue) - Near ERAVATE: LP 448-41 A 1 - 31.08 ly - 8 ls - 1.4% probability - 0.34g

Known geological hotspots like volcanoes at gas vents/ice fumeroles. Use CD-58 4207 - Body 6A and 6B - either 'ice fumarole' or 'gas vents'. With 'needle crystal' structures you have a high chance of Ruthenium.
